In addition to Fatherly, his writing has appeared in WSJ Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Vanity Fair, Esquire, Wired, Playboy, Men’s Journal, Gear Patrol, American Way, Hemispheres, Huffpost, and other national and international publications. He has been a guest on NPR, and on the WSJ Tech Podcast. He is a former editor-at-large of Blackbook, and former editor of the travel magazine, TABLEAUX.

Carter studied English Literature at Vassar College. Born and reared in Louisiana, Carter has since lived in Seattle, New York, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, and on a meditation commune in Iowa. He now lives in Charleston.
